Yeah, I know I said Sunday, but I've been busy. Regardless, here it is - the first official entry to The Last Word Book Club: The Official Handbook of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, by Mark Smith. This book is witty, easy to read, and well-rounded. By taking on nearly 30 different topics in one book, it doesn't counter any liberal myth in complete detail, but manages to find several good arguments for nearly every major issue in America today. The book's format - several subheads of "Liberal Lunacies" followed directly by a factual, common-sense rebuttal - makes it excellent for a conservative in the middle of an argument who needs a quick fact or idea to counter the Idiot Hippies.
Of course, radical liberal reviewers on several websites have given the book awful reviews - but what else do you expect liberals to do when presented with the truth? The book shoots gaping holes in arguments against everything from universal healthcare to banning the death penalty to abortion, so you know you have to expect accusations of racism, anti-feminism, and homophobia from the Left.
Of course, the book isn't perfect; there are instances in which rhetoric and ideological arguments get in the way of factual arguments, but these instances are relatively few. The book even has it's own homepage where you can get a VRWC membership certificate. Overall, I'd highly recommend this book as a good source for arguments and rebuttals, both factual and rhetorical.
One other quick update to the CBS document scandal: the first expert quoted by CBS didn't authenticate the documents! He only checked the signatures on the documents, and several other experts have said that it is possible to copy signatures from other, authentic documents. There have been far more people saying that the documents are false than real - and CBS still won't release the originals for "confidentiality issues." In the very least, it is time for an independent investigation into this. Dan Rather insists that they are real, CBS stands behind him, and if the documents are real, they could be highly injurious to the president. It is bad journalism on the part of CBS is they continue to insist that they are real, but refuse to allow anyone to make sure that they are actual, authentic documents.
