Entry: Muslims: Finally Making Some Sense? Thursday, September 09, 2004

Amazing as it is, this is the first time I have ever seen Muslims apologizing for acts of terror and brutality and condemning those who are distorting their religion into something that it is not. Here's a snippet from the article: " 'It is a certain fact that not all Muslims are terrorists, but it is equally certain, and exceptionally painful, that almost all terrorists are Muslims,' Abdel Rahman al-Rashed, the general manager of the widely watched satellite television station Al Arabiya said in one of the most striking of these commentaries. " Did you catch that? "Almost all terrorists are Muslims?" I am genuinely (and pleasantly) surprised at all of this criticism that has either just recently come out, or has been just recently made known. It's high time for these people to stop blaming the Zionists, Americans, and other Western infidels for crimes that their own people have committed. Anyway, I highly recommend reading this article - since it is on the New York Times' website, it may require you to register (which is free!), but I think that it is worth it.

Down in Florida, people are being told to leave the Florida Keyes to avoid the coming onslaught of Hurricane Ivan. It has already devastated Grenada, and is heading northward toward Florida (here's the projected track of the storm with arrival times) even as people are still picking up the pieces from Hurricane Frances (not to mention Hurricane Charley). Thoughts and prayers go out to those poor people in Florida that have been absolutely blasted by Mother Nature this year - I have relatives down there too, and I know how hard it has been on them. Good luck with this latest storm.

Here's an interesting tidbit - this guy was murdering a load of puppies that he didn't want by shooting them in the head, so one courageous puppy put his paws on the gun, causing the man to shoot himself! Ha! Puppy 1, Man 0.

And another interesting tidbit - this report claims that Ken Jennings the Jeopardy Guy finally ended his streak at 75 games, with total winnings of around $2.5 million dollars. Of course, since Jeopardy is taped so far in advance (they only just aired the episode with his 41st win), we will not see this episode until later in the fall.

Congress will not renew the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban that renews next week, as they will not get a chance to vote on it. I say good - the AWB was never an effective piece of legislation anyway. I personally am not in favor of civilians owning assault rifles, but this law was not the way to do it. For more information on it, head over to FlashBunny and see for yourself.

Dude - NYTimes access dealies are OMG FREEz0r...

But about the hurricanes, I read somewhere that it isn't ENTIRELY the fault of the homeowners - the rate of large-scale hurricanes that we've had the past couple of years has been markedly higher than average.

I don't have an NY Times access subscription thingy, so I can't visit that first link, but I'll take your word on it.

Why do people insist on living in Florida in rickety wooden buildings year after year? EVERY YEAR some hurricane plows through Florida and demolishes all the flimsy buildings people keep building there, and they NEVER LEARN. Why don't they either move out or get the point and build more resilient stuff?

I agree with you on the AWB. From what I've seen (admittedly mostly from pro-gun fanatics), it really is a stupid piece of legislation, though it does try to tackle an important problem.
